De witte aap icon CÁFE DE WITTE AAP
Café De Witte Aap is the core of the Witte de Withstraat, the cultural district of Rotterdam. Seven days a week the café opens its doors at one o’clock in the afternoon to remain open until very late at night.
The day begins quietly with art-lovers and people taking a rest from shopping with a nice coffee, or a refreshing drink. At the end of the afternoon the café becomes more and more crowded with, students, creative people and people coming from the offices nearby. Before you know it you will be enjoying the vibrant nightlife of Rotterdam!

PROGRAMME
The Witte Aap is a lively café at any time, but during the weekends we try to give it a little bit extra. Therefore, on Saturdays we offer you the best DJ’s of Rotterdam. Apart from that we organise culinary activities and there is a different visual arts exhibition every month.

Every month there is room for a new set of photographs, paintings, graphics or anything you can hang on the wall. ABOUT
Café the Witte Aap (meaning White Monkey) is named after ‘Snowflake’, the white monkey that used to live in the zoo of Barcelona until 2003.
The building of the Witte Aap dates from 1888. Until the Second World War it was used as a grocery store of De Gruyter. After the war the Witte de Withstraat became well known for its flourishing, but shifty nightlife. The opening of the Witte Aap in the Witte de Withstraat symbolises the new positive developments in the neighbourhood.
In the end of the 1990’s current owner Ron Sterk took over the café and the popularity of the café started to grow. Now the Witte Aap is a vibrant and crowded café at any day. With the new heated and covered terrace the Witte Aap provides a lively streetscape, even during the winter.
